Biography: Precious Jennings

Featured Dancer

Precious Jennings is a lighthearted bodyworker. She has studied at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) and is a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist.

She hails from the state of Iowa and grew up in a family of six, blessed with a sister born at the same time. Her father was always the masseur in the household. Evenings usually consisted of nightly backrubs. He would chop their backs making their voices bounce up and down, and laugh until their bellies hurt.

She moved to Chicago in 2001, to further her education in dance and movement and eventually to bodywork. She began formal training at PCOM in 2004, study consisted of western deep tissue massage, eastern Tui-na, (Traditional Chinese Massage), Thai, Five Element Theory and Diagnosis, Internal Disharmonies, Acupuncture Points (Acupressure), Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Here she met one of her current teachers in Thai Bodywork, Chuck Duff.

Following graduation from PCOM, in 2006, she furthered her practice of yoga through a work-study Teacher Training program at Moksha Yoga in Chicago, with Daren Friesen. She was blessed with the opportunity to learn from various Master Teachers throughout the years, such as Tias Little, Andrey Lappa, Eddie Modestini and Nicki Doane, and Duncan Wong. Her local yogi master teacher is Jim Bennitt. Her personal practice is deeply rooted in dance and yoga, which she applies to the passive movement and dance-like quality of Thai Bodywork.

In 2009 she travelled to Thailand and studied with Terdchai ‘Mac’ Chumphoopong completing a total of 60hrs practice for Levels 1 & 2. It was truly a blessing to learn this art in the culture it came from, learning that intuition and spirit play a great part in this work. To date she has studied over 250 classroom hours in Thai bodywork through certified teachers.

In addition to Thai bodywork she is also part of Columbia College Chicago adjunct faculty, and teaches in the theater department. She is rehearsing with Rachel Bunting/ ‘the humans’, a modern performance dance company. For more information please go to: preciousjennings.com
