Atalee Judy
Atalee Judy has been performing in Chicago for well over 15 years. She was fortunate to begin her Chicago career at The legendary Mo-Ming Arts Center back in the early 90's. After graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, Performance & Choreography (with Honors in Outstanding Achievement) from Columbia College Chicago, she founded Breakbone DanceCo. in 1996 to house her extreme and athletic nature while exploring and exploiting her background in the 1980's punk hardcore scene of New York's lower east side and her experience in the martial arts. Blending athleticism, martial arts, and formalized dance Atalee has been prolific in teaching her codified movement style "The Bodyslam Technique". Since 1997, Atalee has created a niche for herself and her company with this specialized aggressive performance style. She and her company have toured spots in Canada, The Netherlands, Europe and South America. She serves as an advisor, technical director, videographer and costume designer for other companies and independent artists. She has been commissioned to choreograph, teach and perform for The Chicago Moving Company, the Youth Dance Company of Mordine & Co. Dance Theatre, the Dance COLEctive, Redmoon Theater and other established performance companies in Chicago. Atalee was recently awarded the Elizabeth Cheney Foundation Award for Excellence in Performance by the Chicago Dance & Music Alliance for her company's production of the 2003 ONE Series. She was also recently honored with the highly competitive 2006 Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award for Excellence in Choreography for her achievements in the arts. She thanks Nana & Kay for their continued support, honesty and inspiration. Visit breakbone.com for more info.
